About me
As you may have already guessed, my name is John Shoulberg. I live in suburban St. Louis Mo., and have worked as an editor for a weekly trade magazine in the freight transportation industry for the last three decades. Over the years, that work has involved less and less writing and more and more editing, managing or “other” duties. This blog is a way to keep my writing sensibilities—and fingers—limber, and give me something to write about beside barges.
About This Blog
I began this blog on WordPress.com on Mardi Gras, 2010, aiming to produce an eclectic mix of writings about writing, running, politics, photography and other topics that may be of interest. It’s basically stories—nonfiction, but stories nonetheless—from my perspective in the middle of life and in the middle of America. I try to keep it fresh, with a wide variety of subject matter, while hopefully avoiding the the hit-and-run day-to-day minutia that you might find on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
In February 2021—also on Mardi Gras—I made the switch to a self-hosted site, dropping the “wordpress.com” from the middle of the URL. In addition to the shorter address, that also means that readers won’t be annoyed by ads, and I’ll have a little more ability to try different things with the design of the site.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy it!
About Comments
If you feel so moved, please add to the conversation by leaving comments on blog posts: just click on “Leave a reply” at the bottom of each post.
Right now, comments aren’t moderated before they are published. I hope to keep it that way. The non-moderation may have to change if spam or incivility take root here, but I doubt that will happen. Also, you won’t find objectionable language or subject matter in the posts; let’s keep it out of the comments as well, OK?
Thanks, and I look forward to the conversation.
