Spring Break for my family meant that I could leave home early this morning; a clear sky meant that I was able to do something I’ve never done before, which is to stroll around the Gateway Arch grounds at sunrise.
It was a combination of my favorite photographic subject and my favorite time of day.

Nicely done John! The stream of light going up the arch is a magnificent sight to behold. : )

Thanks Joe. Yeah, the surface of the Arch is shiny stainless steel, but it’s also rough enough so that it scatters the light. When you put the orange sunrise rays on it, it looks like a column of flames.
One day I’ll go across the river at sunrise and try some pictures from there. If the timing and the angles are right, I think it should be possible to get the whole structure lit up in orange.
